Another good show of clean cattle with another buyer at the ringside in Countrystyle Meats buying for their family farm shop in Lancaster, securing the highest gross of the day a Blonde cross steer at £1479 or 248.5p/kg from Mesrs CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield. Top price p/kg was a 470kg heifer consigned by JR Metcalfe of Baldersby which made 256.5p/kg or £1206 when selling to Charlie Clough of Queensbury.

4244 Prime Sheep comprising 3788 Prime Lambs, 456 Cast Ewes & Rams

Sheep trade was less money the length and breadth of the country, and maybe an average of 160.2p/kg was a decent escape on the day with some places reporting averages in the 150’s. Not too sure why the 10p drop in a week apart from exchange rate taking an unfavourable movement and firms reporting less demand for meat. Anyway, top ends in the 90’s today rather than just over the £100’s, and today it was a competition between the lads from Bolton by Bowland with Nick Capstick topping at £99 and £97, Paul Simpson was next at £96, whilst Stephen Pickard weighed in with £95. Bill Logan stood his corner for Malham Moor making £94. Richard Morphet of Halton, Lancaster had a great run of lambs and topped the sale with three pens at 230.8p 219.7p and 217.8p.
Good Mule lambs were 150p to 155p rather than been up around 160p like previous weeks, whilst a good horned was 150p and lesser sorts 135p to 140p.

A quieter show of calves today with a mixed bag of entries today, good calves still selling away well with Fred Houseman topping with a lovely dark BB heifer at £400 and his bull topping at £375.  Geoff and Margaret Booth were also up there with one at £370 and another £365. No flying prices on the black and whites today but an average just over £40 and topping at £70 for an entry from RL Wright & Son.
