Cull Cow Prices

Cast cattle an easier trade but a shortage of cattle carrying finish and a good proportion of lightweight plain cows. The few heavy dairies well into the 90s and steaking cows were 75-80p/kg. Plenty of cows about causing a steadying trade and fluctuating currency adding to the causes just at present.

4,617 Prime Sheep comprising 4,012 Prime Lambs, 605 Cast Ewes & Rams

A huge show of lambs, where we just managed to top 4,000 head for the first time this season. Trade for lowland lambs of all weights and grades was fairly similar to last week, whilst Mule lambs were a shade easier, but light weight horned lambs were dearer. Best end of lambs topped 283p or £119 each for Beltex crosses from Kevin Huck of Bordley purchased by Vivers Scotlamb. Vivers also purchased lambs at 253.6p from Alastair Jenkinson of Langbar. Peter Simpson from Bolton by Bowland made 235p of continentals selling to Rowland Agar Wholesale Meats Ilkley, whilst Kevin Huck sold lambs at 235.7p on two occasions, first to Hartshead Meat Co and then to Vivers Scotlamb. Owain Chapman from Skyreholme made £106 to Kendalls Farm Butchers, S&P Scrivin £105 to Vivers, N&AD Boynton £104 and £101 to Hartshead Meat Co, M&B Allen $104 to Kendall Farm Butchers, James Garth & Son £102 to Vivers Scotlamb, Frankland farms £100 to Vivers Scotlamb.

Heavy lowland lambs found a good following generally around £30-£35 over weight, smarter butchers types £40-£45 over. Handy weight fed lambs from 170p to 190p depending on quality. Grass fed lambs 150p to 165p.
