3,799 Sheep (comprising: 3,297 Lambs and 502 Cast Ewes)

Another good entry of lambs were keenly bid for and some cracking prices for the meat regardless of breed. Like the last few weeks, the 41kg to 44kg well fleshed sorts receiving most interest and better prices per kilo, heavier types again keenly contested with 46kg to 52kg lambs averaging £90.65 or 191.5p. Those under 40’s, unless well finished, were more in the 185 region and fleshed ones 190p to £2.

Sarah Warriner and Mark Harryman made the trip over to Skipton with a full trailer of well fed lambs and were well rewarded. They topped the market per head and per kilo with Beltex Lambs weighing 46kg, selling for £122 or 265p purchased by Vivers Scotlamb. They also had further pens at £111 or 264p to Vivers, £110 and £104 to Keelham Farmshop and £100 to Vivers. Nick Capstick from Bolton by Bowland was next at £120 or 250p for his 48kg Beltex purchased by Vivers Scotlamb. Richard Crabtree from Clifton, Otley was in the 100 Club again, his run topping at £106.50 purchased by Keelham, and another pen at £100. Others in the 100 Club were B&J Sutcliffe, Thorpe with Suffolks at £103, Hurries Farm from Otterburn with Texels at £100 and Tim Robinson from Longridge with Beltex at £100.

Messrs Warriner and Harryman in addition to their pens at 265p and 264p had further pens at 253p and 234p (twice) to Vivers. Nick Captsick, B-by-B made 250p, whilst Richard had 240p, 236p and 235p.

Good Mule Lambs now getting more numerous, and better end above 180p, Messrs Reeday of Hetton topping at 186.6p (47kg £88 each).

Craven Dairy Auction (35 head)

Ken Throup of Woofa Bank, Silsden Moor Judged the pre-sale Show today and chose the Lawson Family’s consignment to be the best on show. The Pedigree Homebred Heifer from the Newbirks Herd was a month calved and giving 34 Litres went on to sell for the sales top price of £1740 and heading to the Father and Son team from Fellbeck, Fred and Mike Longster. Reserve Champion was handed to Stainbank Herd of Robin Jennings with his 28kg heifer selling to £1700 and heading down the road to John Howard at Heslaker Farm.

A mixed bag of goods on offer today with an odd punter missing resulted in a trade that suited the better end of the milkers on sale. The next on the list of high prices was the Fort family from Glusburn at £1660 for a smart milky type that had been calved 20 days and giving 26 litres which sold to the Marshall family of Monk Ing Farm, Dacre, with the Walker family of East Morton up at £1560 for their Heifer selling to Wick Williams.
