An increased show of sheep met with, as predicted, a slightly reduced trade on the week, but maybe slightly stronger than we had thought at the end of last week, recording a good overall average of 189p, or £80.70 per head. A few runs of good fed hoggs now coming on to the market, Chris Crowther having Texels from Cheviot ewes at 217p, and Tony Kienan having Cheviot bred clipped hoggs at 211p upto 223p (44kg at £98.50), and the trade was set from the start as Walter Parkinson from Garstang was first man in the ring, 100 Continentals ranging from 200p to 215p. Paul Simpson again showed a marvellous run of Beltex bred lambs, best end over £110 upto £120, matched by M Taylor & Son of Tosside. Hayley Baines also had several pens top side of £110 and Ron Wartigg with Texels at £113.50. Cast ewes were a good show for quality and a sharper trade for the heavy sorts.
