PRIME SHEEP (3,483 Head)
A smaller show of sheep were
presented for sale this week as vendors responded to the lower prices in the 2nd
half of last week. As expected the nice export weight lambs were not vastly
different on the week. 37kg to 42kg nicely fleshed were 155p to 165p for
commercial Continental lambs, and 180p to a top of 235p for the smarter sorts
of goods. Heavy lambs were generally a touch easier on the week, whilst the
Hill bred were quite a bit cheaper, Mule lambs generally £12 to £14 over the
weight for handy weights and £10 over for the heaviest end.

CRAVEN DAIRY AUCTION (15 head)
The vendors at the December BOCM
Dairy Auction were met with a buoyant trade, with the quality
entry of cattle reaching an Average
of £1,819.50. Judge Stephen Abbott with a little assistance from his
brother Malcolm gave Top Honours to
Robert Crisp of Calton with his entry of
a fine home bred heifer
that was giving 6.5 Gallons. The
heifer experienced some fierce bidding but was eventually snapped up
by Wilmot Blockley, Tarvin for £2,160.
Top Price of the day went to Andrew Jennings of Fountains for a
freshly calved, home bred pedigree
heifer which sold to local buyer Mr Edward Fort and Daughter Georgie for £2340.
Today’s Sale brings us to the end of
a productive year for selling dairy cattle I would like to take this
opportunity to thank you all for your support and competition in the Show Arena
and around Ringside, and look forward to seeing you all next year at the Craven
Dairy Auction which restarts on the 7th January. Merry Christmas and
a Happy New Year!
