Robertshaws Farm Shop of Thornton stepped up and bought the top priced heifer at £1418 a 610kg (232.5p/kg) British Blue cross from Jim Baines of Middop followed up by the second highlight a 590kg Limousin cross heifer at £1413 or 232.5p/kg from CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield. In the handy weights RT&J Critchley & Sons lead the way with a British Blue cross heifer 535kg at 258.5p/kg or £1383 and Limousin cross heifers at 515kg and 560kg 249.5p and 239.5p (£1285 and £1380 respectively) all selling to Countrystyle Meats of Lancaster. A high quality entry and a good trade. Heavy cattle also a respectable trade with a 685kg British Blue Heifer from BL&R Lund of Walshaw the top gross at £1400 when selling to Kendalls butchers in Pateley Bridge.

3136 Lambs sold today at an average of 243p/kg and £105 per head.
Heavy types again finding a good following with £125 to £140 a regular price range for anything smart and heavy, commercial sorts £115/£125. Prices peaked at £150 for heavy Texels from K Marshall, £141 twice for heavy Texels from JM Andrews Easingwold, and £140 for Texels from T Boothman, Linton. EP&JM Hutchinson from Faceby consigned another good run of heavy lambs topping at £139 with the run of 70 lambs averaging £130.
Henry Atkinson presented a superb run of homebred May born Beltex crosses, topping the sale at 357.5p with 10 weighing 40kg selling at £143 each. The same vendor making 341p 322p and 320p. Kevin Marshall of Darley was also in the prices at 345p with 42kg at £145. John Garnett from Draughton made 323p, whilst a good run of lambs form JM Andrews of Easingwold included lambs at 323p and 315p.
Commercial lowland bred handyweight lambs were a very similar trade on the week, with 240p to 270p again a regular price range, 39kg to 42kg making £97 to £110 depending upon the lambs.
Hill bred sheep were a cheaper trade on the week, good Mules/Mashams 225p to 240p or £100 to £115. Horned Lambs were 220/230p for better Blackies/Lonks/Grits, whilst Swales and Dalesbred £2 to 215p, topping at 224p for a good pen from Thomas Boothman, and the lightweights generally in the 190’s. Cheviots were good to sell, Bob Stubbs making a regular journey up from Cheshire and making 256p and a breed average of 242p.
A cracking trade for ewes today, average of £89 for ewes and £94 for rams. Texels averaged £108 today with a top of £137.50 form E&M Heys Cliviger. Mule sheep to a top of £115.50 from Tony Binns of Clint, and several other stronger lots in three figures. Swales to £82.50 from B Simpson of Pateley Bridge, and £79.50 F Reeday & Son Hetton. Goats finding a nice following when selling to £74.50.

Blue Bulls onto average £262 with best sorts £320+ mediums £250-£320 depending on quality. Blue Heifers to average £222 topping at £290 from G Hayton & E.C Stocks.
Black and White calves once again a flyer with an overall average of £79 with a top price of £115. Angus Bulls calves could be purchased from £235-£275 for the best but still only younger sorts forward. Mediums £180-£235
