Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)
A good entry of clean cattle and the edge off the trade. A few commercial heavier cattle got away very well on the day. Top price was £1455 for a British Blue cross heifer from Mesrs S&P Scriven of Elslack which went to Keelham Farm Shop, Skipton. Countrystyle Meats Ltd of Lancaster were up there with a 545kg Limousin cross heifer bought from Mesrs CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield for £1403 or the joint top price per kg of 257.5p, a price shared with the leading gross from S&P Scriven.

3,370 Prime Sheep comprising 3131 Prime Hoggs & 239 Cast Ewes & Rams
A very similar show for numbers on the week, and a better trade than we had predicted, the overall sale average standing at 190.22p/kg, this looking a great result on the day and very pleasing for an entry of over 3000 lambs.
Heavier lambs found a ready following with the Heavy (46kg to 52kg) weight bracket averaging 184.8p and within this weight bracket Texels standing at 188.6p, in comparison to this the Texels 36kg to 45kg levelled at 201p. The over 52kg weight bracket (Others) levelled at 175p.
Lowland lambs had the following top performers when Messrs T&J Thornber of Sawley topped the sale at £117 for Texels, whilst EP&JM Hutchinson, Faceby made £114 twice, £113 £110 £109 £108 and £106 twice in their good run of lambs, whilst Messrs F Webster of Northallerton topped their run at £114 with 44kg Charollais’s and had others at £110 and £105 twice. Peter Broadwith of Burnt Yates also made £114, Ben Simpson from Derbyshire £113 for Continentals, Nick Capstick from Bolton by Bowland £110, and Kevin Marshall £108.50 for 41kg. Topping per kilo were Messrs EP&JM Hutchinson at 297.4p with 38kg at £113. The smarter end of lambs from 230p to 265p.
Handyweight Continentals and nice Sufoflk lambs 38kg to 43kg were best to sell on the day, and generally these just about held their value form last week.
The prime weight Mule wethers were not up to the quality of recent weeks, but still they were cheaper on the week by 5p/kg, to level at 175p, however good sorts still sold well with Bob Stubbs, Northwich getting 42kg Mules to £81.50 each.
