A few vendors tied up with the weather and lambing sheep resulting in a light show of cattle. Top call was £1411 paid by Hamlets Butchers of Garstang for a 570kg Blonde cross heifer purchased from Mesrs AA&E Critchley&Son of Hutton for 247.5p/kg. Leading p/kg price was 259.5p/kg for a 520kg Limousin cross heifer also presented by Mesrs Critchley which sold to Keelham Farm Shop. Countrystyle Meats of Lancaster secured the highest priced steer at 252.5p/kg for a 545kg Limousin cross from Mesrs CD&RF Kitching and the second highest gross a 570kg British Blue cross heifer at £1399 or 245.5p/kg from Mesrs Kitching.

Another fantastic trade today with 3,026 Old Season Lambs selling to an overall average of 261.55p/kg. There was a good quality show of best lambs alongside the usual entry of Mule and Horned/Hill bred lambs. There were some fair runs of fed hoggs today with one of the better end coming from Andrew Phillips of Burton Leonard, who had top price per kilo at 364p and had 51 lambs all sell for 350p or more and topped the market at £151 per head with another 3 pens at £149 and 2 pens at £148. Mr Phillips run of 112 lambs averaged 337.2p/kg and £135.70 per head. There were 755 lambs today classified as Beltex selling to a breed average of £122.88 and 308.7p/kg. 1,417 Texel crosses topped £146 from Paul Baines and 324.4p/kg from Charles and Richard Kitching of Threshfield with a breed average of £110.18 or 260.2p/kg. Suffolks topped £143 from J&F Nutter of Hurst Green, Charollais £142 from Gary Senior of Cumberworth or 273p from John Lord of Littleborough with Mules to £116 each from Bryan Dibb of Menston and £115 from Brian Church of Askwith, with Mr Dibb selling Griststones to £123 each or 241p, Gary Senior of Cumberworth sold top price Lonks at £114 each or 253.3p whilst Keith Slater of Goosnargh had top price Scotch Blackfaced at £112 or 265.0p
The first Spring Lambs of the season were forward from Robert Towers of Farleton and sold to £146 per head or 291.5p/kg purchased by Countrystyle Meat of Lancaster, with three further lots at £141 purchased by J Penny & Sons of Rawdon.
Cast sheep were again a sharp trade, best heavy ewes £125 to £140 each, medium ewes £85-£115 and light ewes £55 to £80. Overall selling average of £88.51 each for the 314 Cast Sheep.

More calves around today with a good straight trade for all types through the ring. Despite the inclement weather a decent ringside of buyers were in attendance and made some heady prices throughout the sale. Mark Chadwick of Chadwick and Leaver from Southfield, near Burnley presenting the top priced calf with cracker of a British Blue bull at £420 selling to Tom Watson of Sawley. Some large consignments of 10 day to fortnight B&W’s from Spring calving farms found a straight trade between £25 - £85 with some strong friesians from Michael Heron of Bramhope hitting £160.
