The August Prime Show was on by Mesrs E&M Townley&Son of Clapham with a smart 560kg British Blue Heifer selling to Keelham Farm Shop for 260.5p/kg or £1459.

Reserve Champion from Ben Townsend, a 525kg Limousin cross Steer also joined Keelham Farm Shop for 245.5p/kg or £1289.

Prime Lambs

A lower turnout of prime lambs nationally and locally along with more heavier lambs on offer today than last week with vendors paying particular to the weights on offer. The better run in heavier lambs resulted in a swifter trade and saw 45kg -52kg lambs average 190.58p with the overall average 4p up on the week a 188.22p.

Robert Fielden of Todmorden had his first draw of prime lambs on offer today and took the August Prize Show top honours and the sales top price of £112 for his pen of 5 Beltex X Lambs selling to Vivers Scot Lamb. Geoff and Margaret Lawn of Skipton were close behind with a pen of Suffolk X lambs at £111 to Swaledale Foods. Other noted prices was John Turner of Ellenber seeing his three of his pens reach £103 and Ian Marsden all the way from Hoylandswaine topping the Charollais’ at £102.50.

Mule wethers were again a strong trade with the werthers on offer today averaging almost £5 more on the week with today’s average at £70.11. Geoff Lawn again topped at £81 and plenty of pens of Mules well past the £70 mark.
