Plenty of numbers about today and a very similar size show to last week, even though most marts reporting lower entry levels. We would have less of the quality Beltex types but more commercial types and hill bred lambs than of late, but still recorded a great overall average of 195/kg in the competitive environment of the live sale ring. The main info for the day would be the fewer smart lambs were, in comparison to last week, a bit dearer with the best ten pens over 250p, handy weight lambs, both lowland and Mule were dearer, definitely dearer for a 40-43kg Mule Wether, the lowland lambs 38kg to 42kg finding good favour all day long with the nice commercial sorts regularly 225p to 230p. The biggest surprise of the day came for heavy’s, we predicted they would be cheaper following slacker trade from late last week, in truth the heavy’s were along similar lines, being £3-£4 apiece dearer than we thought they would be, over 52kg averaging more on the week.
Things look nicely set for the Hogg season now, buyers are out in force with between 14 and 18 men stood ringside every week who have orders for just about every shape, size and description of sheep. If you have sheep coming ready for sale speak to Auctioneer Ted Ogden 07855 958211 for updates on trade.

Martyn Jennings took the Dugdale prize for the highest priced calf this morning with his strong British Blue bull selling for £430. All in all a good trade was had throughout the sale with some particular strong bidding on the best continental heifers. Church Farm Enterprises saw the best of the heifer trade peaking at £380 twice for a brace of cracking calves.
Throughout the sale middle of the road calves found a ready audience today with a healthy contingent of both farmers and agents ringside. Black and white calves were a straight trade today, however not many bidders on the strong calves however fortnight to month old calves were nice to sell.
Natives found some stiff competition ringside with heifers seeing the biggest change compared to recent sales however it was a strong bull from Graham Hayton which topped the section at £325.
