2,192 Prime Sheep comprising 1,943 Old Season Lambs & 249 Cast Ewes & Rams
A nice show of sheep and trade vey much stand on from last week, ending with a similar overall average. The smart lambs sold well, being slightly dearer on the week. Tom Walmsley from Haverah Park topped the market with a great run of sheep, making £118, £115 twice and £113, Ian Marsden made the trip up from Hoylandswaine and made £115 £111 £109, Henry Atkinsons run of lambs topped at £110 with others at £106, Thomas Boothman of Linton made £109 and £105, David Pawson of Billinge had sheep to £108 as did JW Stockdale & Son from Burnsall, whilst Chris Akrigg of Cray in Upper Wharfedale had a cracking pen of 25 Continental lambs weighing 46kg make £107 each, followed by James Towler from Grindleton who had a nice run of lambs top at £106.
The next grade of nice skinned ¾ Texel lambs found a very ready market, many of these selling away from 210p to 230p, one nice run of 85 lambs in this bracket from one farm averaging 220.2p 41.5kg £91.39 a piece, right in the slot of what the export customer requires, whilst a commercial handy weight lamb was 195p to 210p.
Heavy lambs were again short of requirements, and the 46kg to 52kg weight bracket averaged 191p which included several lots of heavy Mules or Swale tups, Continental lambs in this bracket were mainly either side of £2, topping at 239p. Decent Mules regardless of weight were generally around 182-184p with best end at 189p 187p 186p from Steve Dorey, 188p S Forshaw and 187p Kevin Wilson, and decent Swales in the 170’s up to 177p from Thomas Boothman and Lonks to 192p from Chris Crowther of Oldham. A short show of ewes were a shade better on the week.
