A slightly smaller show of sheep today met with a much sharper trade, especially for a commercial type of Lowland bred lamb. The smart things were good to sell, exactly the same as last week with Hannah Brown leading the sale at £114 each or 265p/kg. A commercial Continental lamb, regardless of weight would be £2-£3 dearer on the week, making the 40kg to 45kg lambs selling from 165p to 175p, whilst the heavies were 150p to 160p depending on quality. Mule wether lambs were £3-£4 a piece dearer on the week, the best end of 45-46kg lambs working into £27-£28 over the weight, the very best at £30 over with CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield selling 45kg’s at £75, a more commercial sort was £24-£25 over. Horned lambs were no dearer, generally around 130p.

A handy show of dairy cattle for the Christmas Show with Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton taking the top honours with his Pedigree heifer that had been calved 28 days and giving 32 Litres. Judge Helen Herd found this to be her favourite and rightly so selling to the days top price of £2000. The Baul family also took Reserve Champion with his second heifer and reached joint second highest price of £1850 and joined Roger Naylor of Langbar.
Right throughout the sale milkers sold well with David Leeming of Burnt Yates receiving a strong following topping at £1640 for a 3rd Calver giving 36 Litres. Jennings Farmers of Fountains reached £1700 for a Pedigree Heifer giving 32kgs and sold again to the Naylor Family.
The Frank Wade Perpetual Trophy was won by I Olivers and Partners with their good entry due to calve in January to the Aberdeen Angus and sold to £1210.
