MARKET REPORT - MONDAY 24TH FEBRUARY 2014 DAIRY 68 Rearing Calves & 39 Dairy Cattle Quiet on the milking front, but plenty of faces to sell them to. Brian Moorhouse, Bell Busk had the pick of the bunch with a superb home bred pedigree heifer giving 31kg reaching £2650 to a Mr Clarke of Hampsthwaite.

A stronger show forward with black and white calves a good trade throughout with just some young calves dragging the average down. Continentals a straight trade with David Leeming, Burnt Yates having a nice trade throughout with his continental calves. John Marshall of Brays Croft topped the B&W’s with 2 calves over £120. £370 & £355 was reached with 2 Limousin calves presented by Graham Hayton, Bolton Abbey.

Craven Dairy Auction (39 head)

Quiet on the milking front, but plenty of faces to sell them to. Brian Moorhouse, Bell Busk had the pick of the bunch with a superb home bred pedigree heifer giving 31kg reaching £2650 to a Mr Clarke of Hampsthwaite.  2nd Prize from Richard Close was another fine specimen with John Howard, Heslaker snapping that up for £2120. Robinson’s of Eldroth were once again making good headway with their HB heifer reaching a handy £2250.

 

Once again a good packet of cattle in the youngstock section with Messrs Whitaker of Laneshawbridge having a good show of Incalf and maiden heifers forward for sale with £1700 made of one of their March calvers. MGT Corner of Easingwold had the 1st Prize heifer and rightly so with it realising a dizzy £1860.
