3,819 Prime Sheep comprising 3,285 Prime Lambs, 526 Cast Ewes & 8 Rams
A very good show on the week, with all classes quite a bit dearer, especially Mule Wethers. A grand show of smart lambs were easily sold and very highly sought, a cracking pen of lambs form Anthony Hewetson topping the sale at 239.1p. others at 232.6p from the same vendor. Mr Hewetson also had lambs adding up to £110, £107 £103 and £100 twice. Other three figure prices were Ellis Bros £109, Jeremy Taylor £104 and Duncan Halliday £100. Commercial lambs were generally £2 to £4 dearer helped by much tighter numbers countrywide and so customers were out in force this afternoon.

Continentals and Natives saw a strong trade right the way through the day with prices strong for all goods especially the middle of the road goods. Some big runs of calves arrived today and were not disappointed with Chris and Margie Hall, Fred Houseman and John Dodgson of Bank Newton all leaving with a good trade.
It was the Clarke family of Hampsthwaite who took the top price of the day with a super blue bull which reached the Sale high of £405. Middle of the road continentals and natives were hard fought over with hard reared calves arguably the dearest of the lot, with many being bid well into the mid £300’s. Natives saw £300 briefly with some good calves from Chris Hall of Shelley and Brian Wellock bringing a strong Aberdeen Angus which realised £280.
Black and whites a sticky trade with lesser calves hard to sell today with stronger better fleshed calves selling away better.

A changeable sort of trade today with good heifers selling away well with Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk topping the day’s trade with his Pedigree heifer giving 32kg and from the Aireburn Miss America family went on to sell for £1850 to Stephen and Eddie Jeanes, Glusburn. Another heifer from Hesper Farm went on to sell for £1750, which had been calved just 10 days and giving 27kgs sold to Brian Blezard of Hothersall Hall Farm.
Champion of the day went to a tremendous heifer from David and Suzy Lawson of Arthington which giving 28 litres sold to the Judge Mike Longster of Fellbeck. Robert Crisp of Calton sold his first heifer in the ring to the Sowray Bros of Bishop Thornton for £1600, the heifer which was giving 30kg and only a week calved certainly set the day off well.
