Trade remains cool for the cast cattle, although a good line-up of bidders present to put cows away onto feed for the New Year. Meated dairies around the 100p/kg with the steaking types making into the mid 90s. Meat in the beef crosses similarly steady but interest in feeders.

Following on from Sundays Xmas Show, todays trade was better on the week, with handy weighted lowland lambs receiving keen bidding and would be 5p dearer on the week. Heavy lambs also up a gear, mainly about £2-£3 a head up. But hill bred lambs got the best lift, Mules pushing £30 over the weight, whilst handy weight horned wethers could make either side of 160p/kg.
Lambs topped at £114 for Beltex from Thomas Boothman of Linton purchased by Vivers Scotlamb, this was also the top per kilo price at 259.1p. Ellis Bros made £106 and Robert Lambert from Wigglesworth made £105, boths pens to Vivers Scotlamb. Mark & Gemma Dobson of Hartlington made £102, Michael Hall of Scosthrop £101 and £99, and Duncan Halliday from Sowerby Bridge made £99 as did Martyn Jennings from Cowling and Colin Whitelock from Gargave.
Per kilo Ellis Bros made 258.5p, Robert Lambert 256.1p, Michael Hall 246.3p, FW&JM Eddingotn 239.0p, Ellis Bros 234.5p 233.3p.

A fantastic day in the calf ring for the Christmas Calf show with the judging carried out by Will Gore-Browne of SIlsden Moor. The Champion Rosette ended up in the hands of Marcus Chadwick of Chadwick and Leaver of Southfield, Nr Burnley. A fantastic Simmental bred calf at just 7 weeks of age sold for £440 to the Judge.
A good show of calves throughout the day made for some heady prices, in particular British Blue x heifers which topped at £470 for a cracker from Sowray Brothers with Church Farm Enterprises seeing their calves reach £440 three times, with a section average of £355.95.
Continental bulls weren’t far behind the heifers with Martyn Jennings of Cowling selling the top price bull for £460 with Sowray’s selling the 1st and 2nd Prize British Blue bulls at £455 & £440 with a section average of £346.48.
Natives were once again on good form with an average of £248 for bulls and £143 for Angus heifers topping £340 for a strong Angus bull from Hayton & Stocks, with Hartley’s of Bolton Abbey receiving £280 for their Hereford Heifer.
A much better display of black and whites saw an equally improved trade this week averaging £71.67 and topping at £115 for a bull calf from AJ&A Walmsley, Ripley.
