Lamb numbers way short of requirements on the Bank Holiday which would certainly help trade along to an overall selling average of 190.8p/kg, but there was a nice show of lambs with generally a bit more weight than last week, with only 142 lambs in the sale under 40kg. The smart end were a very good trade with Beltex crosses averaging 218.3p/kg and a good list of Beltex and ¾ Texel pens making 230p to a top of 241p, whilst Texels levelled at 191p selling to £116 each from J Turner, or 241p from K Huck. Nice Lambs were from 195p to 210p, whilst the commercial lowland lambs were 180- to 195p. Mule wethers sold to £81.50 or 185p from Messrs Mawer, Pateley Bridge.
Cast Ewes sold away nicely with meated sorts especially well sought.

A cracking day in the dairy ring today with a 100% clearance. 4 Pedigree Bulls 19 Maidens and 5 Milkers went under the hammer with the pre sale show being a victorious outing for the Lawson Family of Arthington, Nr Otley. Their tremendous homebred heifer which had calved 21 days, giving 30kg and by the famous bull Grafeeti was highly sought after and sold for £2150 to Aubrey Greenhalgh. A big, predominantly black bull Sired by Monument Impression and from the Lawson’s Blueblood family took the top price in the bulls at £2,000 selling to Anthony Bolland of Bolton Abbey. Two bulls presented by Brian Moorhouse of Hesper Farm were also keenly sought after, with both bulls just a year old and from the Honey family boasting sires of Mogul and Super sire sold for £1,800 and £1,500.
A run of surplus maiden heifers from Paul and Janet Bolland of Airton also received a strong following, with a range of 15month down to 4month old heifers averaging £628.95 and topping for a pair of Seagull Bay MVP daughters at £770.
