A sharp increase in numbers this week with 2,094 lambs penned for sale which met with an improved trade on the week with 16 buyers stood up to the ringside to openly bid for stock. Lambs saw top price per kilo of 243.6p, or £95 for 39kg Beltex crosses from Mark Townley of Claughton, Lancaster. Nicky Capstick of Bolton by Bowland had 242.9p, £85 for 35kg Beltex. Both pens were purchased by Vivers Scotlamb. 240p was achived on 4 other occasions, Bob Lancaster of East Marton made 241p or £94 for 39kg to Keelham Farmshop, whilst Richard Ireland of Whalley also had 241p, or £94 for 39kg, Ellis Bros made 240.3p or £86 for 36kg and finally Neil Tattersall of Ellerton near York made 240.0p or £96 for 40kg.
Top price per head went to James Spensley of Elslack with £114 for 54kgs sold to Nick Dalby buying on behalf of ………. Next was Richard Spence of Sutton in Craven whose 52kg’s made £108. Mark Evans of Steeton had a lovely pen of Suffolk crosses weighing 47kg selling for £107 each. Other pens at three figures came from James Spensley 47kg £103 and 47kg £100, FA Holmes & Son of Castley near Otley made £102 of 45kg’s, MR&GP Beresford of Halton West had £100 for 49kg Texels and Andrew Taylor of Broughton, Skipton also made £100 of Texel crosses.
Trade generally was 205-215 for nice prime lambs and either side of £2 for commercial types, the whole sale levelling at 203.5p for 2,094 head.

Strong trade again for calves with black and whites yet again a scintillating trade with the average age around 31 days and averaging an impressive £124 with John Wright of Airton topping at £230 with John Dugdale of Stackhouse at £225. The France family of Liversedge saw their calves average £142 for fortnight old friesians topping at £195, £190 and £180.
Blue Bulls saw a marked increase for the better end with Geoff and Margaret Booth and Paul & Janet Bolland both reaching £440 with Church Farm Enterprises having three 5 week old bulls above £400. Heifers increased in price compared to the last two weeks with a stronger show receiving a stronger trade averaging £337 with Booths again topping with a sweet heifer at £360.
