1,053 Prime Sheep comprising 453 Spring Lambs, 357 Prime Hoggs, 25 Mature Hoggs, 218 Ewes & Rams

New Season Lambs saw a very similar size entry of 453 head, with trade seeing a useful rise of around 10p/kg on the week. Nice handy weight Continental Lambs in strong demand (39kg-43kg) 240p to 270p regular away, tops at 290.2p/kg (41kg £119) for a pair of Continetals from T&J Moran, Nappa. JC Marshall from Dacre had a pen of 5 Texel cross lambs at 283.2p (42kg £119) and 3 Texel cross lambs at 282.9p (41kg £116), whilst 282.9p (41kg £116) was also achieved by A&EM Ashby & Son, Farnley with a pen of 6 Texel crosses. TA Robinson, Longridge had a good run of lambs which topped at 281.8p (44kg £124) for a pen of 3 Continental crosses, followed by M Crabtree Kettlesing at 281.4p (43kg £121). Heavier lambs (45kg+) saw the better end away up towards 250p, and commercials sorts 220p to 235p. Overall average for the 453 head of 242.4p/kg or £103.82 per head.
Prime Hoggs and Mature Hoggs (Teeth up) still coming forward, although numbers much tighter today. A very mixed bag, better handy weights still 190p to 220p, tops at 220.8p from Tim Robinson, Longridge, and selling to £116 twice from Tony Kiernan, Longridge, with £112 being achieved for Continentals from Nick Capstick Bolton by Bowland. Still seeing a nice bit of trade for the well finished sorts which should also be the case next Monday.

A decent show of Ewes and Rams saw anything with a good covering of flesh, but not over fat, or the leaner sorts sell away very nicely as trade reasonably brisk as buyers prepare for the upcoming festival.
