4,863 Prime Sheep comprising 4478 Prime Lambs, 385 Cast Ewes & Rams
After yesterdays show, it was back to normal business today, and it was a very busy day to boot with a big show of sheep on parade. Lambs were a nice trade, although not just as dear, but numbers up 20% so they were always going to be a shade easier. Handy weighted lambs either side of 40kg were good to sell, with these proving short of buyers requirements, whilst heavy lambs were harder to place on the week with demand for these visibly slacker. On the day Simon Garth of Keasden and David Shuttleworth of Gargrave were joint top priced vendors at £100 per head, whilst Richard Morphet from Lancaster topped the sale at 250p with a pen of 38kg Beltex at £95 purchased by Vivers Scotlamb. Next were Richard & Mark Ireland made 233p (39kg @ £91) purchased by Andrew Atkinson for Hartshead Meats Ltd at Mossley.

Craven Dairy Auction (40 head)
The Christmas Dairy Show at Craven Cattle Marts can be deemed as a great success with the Craven Cattle Marts Perpetual Trophy won by none other than regular supporter of CCM Robert Crisp of Calton in Malhamdale. David Hall of Conistone Cold was our judge for the Pre-Sale Show with Mr Crisps 27kg, 15 day calved Homebred Heifer selling to Alf and Andrew Townsend of Southfield for £2150.
Reserve Champion, a Shottle Daughter from Brian and Judith Moorhouse of Bell Busk was second in show and sold for £2000 which sold to William Oldfield of Stocks Enterprises, Gisburn.
It was fair to say that the first heifer in the ring set the tone with Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton selling his Newly Calven Homebred Heifer for £1990 for a 17 day calved 30kg heifer. Peter Baul also went onto to collect the Frank Wade Perpetual Trophy for the Champion Incalf heifer which came from his pen of six that he had on sale for the day. It was John Ireland of Thorpe Bassett who took the top price however in the Incalf section at £1250.
The newly calven cow class was won by David Lawson of Arthington. The fortnight calved 2nd Calver sold for £1800 to Messrs Robinson of Grewelthorpe. Robert Crisp not far behind with his second calver selling to another strong price of £1720 to Wick Williams of Cheshire.
