Cast cattle have started to come on to the market in quantity with demand absorbing the higher percentage of lean cattle with only a slight easing of price at this end of the scale. Cattle with finish 5-10 p/kg less on the week but cast cattle do need moving before the traditional easing in demand in November as Christmas trade for clean cattle builds.

Sheep trade eased today as widely expected it would with less ethnic demand following the end of EID. Other customers were also quieter than of late but an overall average of 144p/kg would be a very good result on the day.

101 calves forward today with trade a touch easier with larger numbers coming forward. Continental heifers would see the most buoyant trade with a number of heifer buyers charging each other for the better end of calves. Dairy bred would remain similar on the week with plane calves looking as dear as anything. £430 stopped the best calf today from Fred Houseman with Colin Whitelock the best of the rest in the bulls at £400 and Richard Sutcliffe topping the heifers at £410.
Numbers still in demand with arable buyers returning steadily after a slow drilling.
