A larger show of calves in Skipton today with overall not quite as good as late, trade was definitely easier throughout. Best calves still commanded strong prices with Fred Houseman topping at £410 with Craig Stephenson and D&J Carlisle not far behind at £390. A large show of native calves were a pleasant surprise this morning with best part of 40 Angus calves. Aberdeen Angus bulls topped at £285 for an entry from James Wellock, Seat House and a section average of £207.19.
All heifers seemed like an honest trade with some very young heifers distorting the average slightly. Again it was the turn of Church Farm Enterprises with two heifers topping at £380.

Craven Dairy Auction (10 head)
Robin Jennings of South Stainley took top honours today at the craven dairy sale with his 36kg heifer reaching £1700 and leaving with the judge. Jennings’ other heifer a 29kg pedigree heifer calved just a fortnight got away at £1550 to Jeff Liddle of Huby. Clearly the issue of winter feed is putting mounting pressure on the pockets of potential buyers despite this enough clients were ringside to make an honest trade of the milkers on offer.
