fed cattle available and trade a touch firmer. Feeding cattle were keenly bid
with a number of lightweight beef crosses suitable for grazing a very good
trade.

In the Prime Hogg section numbers were down on the week with trade
having seen a reduction during the course of last week. Handy weight sheep were
a reasonable trade, some decent runs of continental sheep still commanding 210p
to 220p, the best sorts 240p to 300p, commercial types 190p to 200p. Anything
out of the mainstream though, weighing 47kg upwards were a very variable trade
with heavy hoggs generally finding a more cautious enquiry from buyers. Decent
Mule lambs 43kg to 45kg though could still manage 185p to 190p.
Cast Sheep bucked the trend and were a stronger trade.

Sheep (591 Head)
There were 216 Sheep with 375 lambs at foot forward for today’s weekly
sale. Young sheep with strong lambs were again keenly bid for, £230 to £250 not
an uncommon price. The top price on the day was £265 per outfit, achieved on
three different occasions, twice by Thomas Boothman, Linton who sold a run of
72 Texel Shearlings and Young Ewes with twin Beltex, and Andrew Bailey, Eldroth
sold Mule Shearlings with twins to the same amount. Older sheep with strong
lambs were again good to sell, whilst those with younger lambs were a much
better trade than last week.
Today we held our Special Early Show & Sale of Sheep with lambs,
judging was carried out by Sarah Warriner of Pickering, and she gave the
following awards. Sponsors were The British Wool Marketing Board.
