REARING CALVES to £380  average £160.87

A strong entry of calves for the final sale of September with a good ringside of buyers. The type of the day was black and white calves with a number of buyers fighting it out for the quality goods. Continentals a touch cheaper on the week however church farm enterprises bucked the trade with some top quality British Blues topping at £380 and a Friesian at £280. 71 Calves were forward for the weekly market, better than local competition.

CRAVEN DAIRY AUCTION (20 head)

The end of the month sale brought a cracking show of dairy cows, making it a difficult task for Judge James Kayley. The champion a 15 day calved 30kg pedigree heifer from David Lawson of Arthington was rocketed to £2700 and was knocked down to the man that made it Champion. Reserve went a lovely smart dales heifer from Robert Crisp of Calton giving 6 ½ gallon which was well sought after and ended up making £2180 to GT & BF Blezard, Ribchester, another notable vendor was Sammy Sugden of Laycock with two n/c hfrs both bought as maidens out of here last year which made £1900 and £1940.
