Their purchases included the highest price p/kg and gross heifer 255.5p/kg and £1380 a British Blue cross from S&P Scriven, Elslack and the highest grossing steer at £1430, a British Blue steer from James drake of Carleton.

A large entry of 4,400 lambs today, and to be fair probably one of the best for meat we have seen for a long time with some great runs of lambs in the entry. Top end trade was strong with Henry Atkinson selling 50kg Beltex at £125, others at £120 £108 and £104 twice. Nick Capstick of Bolton by Bowland presented his usual good run of lambs topping at £121, others at £119 £114 and £100. Messrs M Taylor & Son of Rathmell made £113 of 46kg Beltex, Robert Lambert of Wigglesworth £112 of 47kg, Anthony Thompson £110 of Suffolk crosses, Mike Allen of Staithes £107, S&P Scriven £102.50 and JA&JH Hewetson £102.

Per kilo, Henry Atkinson made 250p, 244.9p, M Taylor & Son 245.7p, RJ Lambert 238.3p, M&B Allen 232p and K Saffrey 231p.

A better end prime lamb was generally around the 175p to 185p mark, commercial lambs 165p to 175p, the Heavy lamb bracket 46kg to 52kg saw 1,195 head average 168p, whilst 3,072 lambs of all breeds weighing 36kg to 45kg averaged 175.7p. Mule lambs 155p to 165p, good horned lambs around 150p.

Buyers looking for quality with the sale headed by a Simmental cross bull calf bred from a pure Friesian cow which made £392 when the 38 day old calf was sold by Mesrs HJ&KL Blackwell of Gargrave. The top end of the British Blue heifers were also much in demand with Church Farm Enterprises making £370 twice of calves 6 and n7 weeks of age.
