The Champion was a 635kg British Blue Steer from Simon Bennett of Silsden Moor which joined prolific buyers Keelham Farm Shop for 243.5p/kg or £1546. Work is well underway at the site of the new Keelham Farm Shop at Skipton which will open in early 2015.

A very nice entry of lambs today with numbers similar on the week, although Lamb numbers nationwide were generally tighter than last week and this had a positive effect on the average sale price which rose by 5pkg to 172.4p or £71.80 per head overall.

More Mule and Masham Lambs about today with nearly 300 head in the entry and these finding a ready market place as long as they were well finished, most weighing 41kg to 47kg at £24 to £26 over the weight.

First cross Continentals from Mules generally around 170p, whilst something a little smarter 175p to 180p and the best end all up around 200p or more. Suffolk cross lambs form 160p to 180p depending upon finish and quality.

Today was Monthly show day, and Paul Watson of Hellifield kindly judged, and this month there was additional prizes from the Northern Texel Breeders Club who offered a special voucher of £50 to use when purchasing a ram at the Club sale to be held at Skipton in September. Further vouchers will be up for grabs at the late August Store lamb Sale and also at the September prime lamb Prize show. The Champion Lambs today came from Trevor & Clive Robinson of Tosside whose 40kg Beltex crosses sold for £95 and purchased by James Robertshaw for his family business Keelham Farm Shop based in Thornton, Bradford

Rearing Calves to £490 (52)

A strong trade for all grades today with a number of buyers turning up unannounced to buy top quality rearing calves.  Continentals were a phenomenal trade with lots of competition for all types. Black and whites were also stronger with seasonal buyers returning to compete for well fleshed calves making a strong average of £51.42. Top of the tree was RL Wright & Sons with a fantastic British Blue Bull which sold for £490 with a new vendor from Shelley making £470 and £430.
