A full ringside and increased entry carried over from the Bank Holiday. Low value of sterling and the end of the school holidays have caused the trade to rise which was further assisted by a smattering of very good heavy dairy cows which made well into the 130s. Dairies had to be very plain to make less than 100p. Beef crosses equally good to sell from feeders to heavies carrying finish. Mature bulls continue to sell well to 148.5p for an Aberdeen Angus non assured entry.

3,635 Prime Sheep (comprising 3,372 Prime Lambs & 263 Cast Ewes & Rams)
A larger show of sheep than anticipated today, but they met with a much stronger trade than seen at morning markets, and were dearer than many thought they would be given the end of Qurbani only two days ago. The Monthly show was well supported and Judge Paul Watson had some great lambs put before him. Regular consignor Nick Capstick from Bolton by Bowland was awarded the championship ticket and his 46kg Beltex crosses sold to Vivers Scotlamb in Annan. It was the reserve champion pen form Michael Hall of Airton that made top price of the day when his 43kg Beltex crosses sold for £122 or 283.7p/kg also to Vivers Scotlamb. Mr Hall also sold another pen of Beltex at £115.50 each to Vivers Scotlamb. Ellis Bros had a pen of 45kg Beltex at £109, Mike Allen form Staithes sold 47kg Beltex at £108 and Nick Capstick sold another pen at £108 weighing 43kg. Mike Allen sold 44kgs at £106 and Bill Logan from Malham Moor topped his run at £105.
