A very good show of cattle at July Prime Show with prizes for top prices awarded. Phil Gregory of DA Gregory&Sons of Bacup made his periodic visit and was rewarded with plenty of choice with both leading priced heifer and steer making 258.5p/kg. The steer a 565kg Limousin cross was sold by F&B Smith of Masongill with a gross value of £1466 whilst the heifer a 550kg Limousin cross came from the pen of CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield a 550kg British Blue cross which grossed up at £1422.
Top of the gross prices was another F&B Smith entry, a Limousin cross steer weighing 590kg which grossed £1466 and sold to Keelham Farm Shop in Skipton. There is no let up in retail demand from the high quality shops represented at the ringside and in previous weeks and deservedly so as conditions have been challenging during the past 3 months. Shared top price p/kg of 258.5p/kg from F&B Smith and CD&RF Kitching.

Dairy sale tops at £2150.
Today’s sale saw a mixed selection with three animals at £2000 plus. First in the ring was a second calver from Brian Moorhouse, Aireburn Boastful Rose fresh and giving 36kg/day, she had given over 10,000kg as a heifer with a SCC of just 23 and was a 4th gen of VG/EX cows. Pedigrees were high in demand and the top two prices of the day came from David, Margaret and Jennie Booth who had two cracking heifers forward. First in, the red factor Moortop Poppy Sara Red, bred from 5 gens straight EX dams, she was a potential 9th gen VG/EX, giving 33kg/day she was an eye catching heifer and sold to £2050. Equally as correct and the sale topper was Shawdale Chief Rolls giving 36kg/day and a potential 5th gen VG/EX, selling to £2150. All three went to the same buyer travelling North of the border. Of the Non-pedigree heifers, Mick Blackwell also had two heifers forward topping at £1800.
The first two heifers from Robert Lofthouse’s ongoing dispersal of milkers were stronger Friesian types, both peas in a pod selling to the same local buyer Mr Smith, who also purchased the single heifer forward from Robin Jennings.
Thanks as always to both Vendors and Purchasers and look forward to building in numbers for our next Dairy sale on Monday 27th July 2020.
