It was Monthly Show day at CCM Skipton and judge James Dewhurst selected a pen of five Beltex crosses from Trevor & Clive Robinson as his champions on the day, weighing 42kg they sold for £125 per head or 297p/kg to SA Swales Knavesmire Butchers in York. Reserve Champions and top price on the day were a pen of 5 Beltex crosses weighing 46kg from Martin & Val Brown of Leyburn selling for £160 each or 347.8p/kg. The purchasers were again Messrs Swales.
Out with the show prize winners, Stocks Enterises sold lambs at £120, Tom Walmsley £119, AM&HV Brown £110(x2) £109 £108, RH&MR Ireland £109 £104, DN&D Capstick £107, M Hall £101, FW&JM Edington £101. Lowland were exactly the same trade as last week, plenty of very smart end sorts 200p to 230p, nice Continental crosses 175p to 195p, commercial types 165p to 175p, Heavy Lambs £32 to £35 over, smarter ones £40 - £45 over weight. The average for the whole sale, including Hill Bred Lambs, was 172.8p/kg for 3,800 head. Its’ worthwhile noting that over the last few weeks numbers continue to be 10-15% higher than at this point last year and sale averages £10-£12 per higher as well. This is a reflection of lambs being well presented by our vendors, being well fleshed, clean and right for the customer.
Hill Bred Lambs were a nice trade again, Mule lambs around £26-£28 over the weight, odd good pens touching £30 over. Horned Wethers around the 150p mark, good tups 140p to 145p

Craven Dairy Auction (32 head)
A healthy show of milkers present this morning with 28 tied up in shippon. Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton took top honours when judge Wick Williams picked his 28kg, 16 day calved pedigree heifer from the Ravensgate herd which went on to sell for £1650 to the judge himself. Reserve Championship went to Robert Crisp of Calton with his big framed light heifer selling to the sale high of £1700 to Alf and Andrew Townsend. Keith Downs from Bingley brought four sweet heifers, all of which looked like very durable heifers and received £1650, £1620, £1400 and £1300 for his consignments.
Not quite the day for sky high prices but certainly a good trade right the way through the sale middle of the road heifers well bid at. Certainly much more enthusiasm ringside which was encouraging to see and bodes well for the Christmas Show which is in three weeks time on the 28th November.
