A lean selection of cows on the market for the most part but again the few meated cows were a shade easier for a consecutive week. An extra customer on the plain cows kept the lean cattle respectable.

3,343 Prime Sheep comprising 2,913 Prime Lambs & 430 Cast Ewes & Rams
A smaller show of sheep sold away reasonably well, and a strong overall average of nearly 171p. The smart lambs were a good trade, best sorts 220-250 regularly away up to 262.5p from Samantha Asquith of Otley and £106 from Fox Farms of Clitheroe. The next grade were 180p to 210p depending upon weight, with rather more interest in the handy weights 39kg to 43kg if smarter skinned and well fleshed. Lambs that have had additional feed certainly fairing better than a plainer grass fed lamb. More heavier lambs about today, with 1100 lambs scaling 46kg or more, which just held the trade for these.

A good number of calves through the door this Monday with a two tier type of trade this morning. Best Continentals from the likes of Church Farm Enterprises and Joss Lancaster saw their calves reach £420 and £395 respectively with Lancaster’s Heifers topping the females at £360. Middle of the road bulls were certainly less than a week ago, however a straight trade was had by all. Native bulls saw some fierce competition with James Wellock of Eshton and Smith’s of Carleton topping with Aberdeen Angus bulls at £310.
A run of Flekvieh calves from Chris Watson, Horton In Craven were once again keenly sought after topping with a super bull at £385 with the main of his run between £180 and £230.
Not a lot of flesh around in the Black and White Calves with the main of the calves in the £30 to £60 bracket with a Friesian from Richard Spence topping at £115.
Next Week is the CCM Calf Show.
