Calderdale’s John Midgley, of Dean House
Farm, Ludendenfoot, landed his third prime pig championship in four years at
Skipton Auction Mart’s sixth annual Lingfield Christmas primestock shows and
sales. (Sun, Dec 1)
Mr Midgley again clinched the title with his
first prize trio of 90kg Piétrain-cross
gilts, which, like his 2012 victors, were again snapped up by John Summers
Family Butchers, of Clayton, Bradford, for a show-topping £230 per head.
Mr Summers also paid £140 each for the
reserve champions, the first prize winners in the 85kg or less show class from
Blackburn’s David Pawson.
The second prize 85kg+ pen from JG Bamforth,
of Slaithwaite, Huddersfield, sold for £210 each to Bamber
Bridge wholesaler Stephen Taylor, who also paid the same price for the same
vendor’s first prize trio of native-bred pigs.
Mr Taylor struck again to land the second prize 85kg or less pen from 13-year-old Louise Findlay, of Coverdale, for £125 each
