MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 10th SEPTEMBER 2014.
Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle.
Forward: 629 head of cattle
comprising of: 59 Young Feeding Bulls, 550 Bullocks & Heifers, 17 Breeding Cattle & 3 Grazing Cows.
Sellers of young bulls should note the average price for all bulls under 12 mos at £953.56 which confirms the current shortage of entire cattle in the under 16 month age group now approaching slaughter. Bulls in this age group still need to be weaned at least 3 weeks prior to sale, creep fed, farm assured (which increases the number of potential customers) and preferably pneumonia vaccinated with the onset of Autumn just round the corner.
A large show of bullocks and heifers were very keenly contested again with 20% more cattle about than this time last year. Continental Bullock averages were down £47 on the year, and Continental Heifers only £10 down on the year. Plenty of runs of smart cattle receiving good attention, but again a good showing of native cattle, with Angus, Hereford and Shorthorn cattle in abundance and a strong show of Black & White Bullocks averaging £779 per head.
