MARKET REPORT - WEDNESDAY 11th APRIL

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle. Forward: 519 head of cattle: Comprising: 181 Young Feeding Bulls, 37 Beef Feeding Cows, 297 Bullocks & Heifers, & 4 Breeding Cattle.

A good show of feeding bulls for a lambing time sale, even though the quality of the entry was affected by the need to clear pens for housing sheep. With general quality not quite on the level of previous sales, trade remained good seeing an average of £986 for all bulls under 12months old.
The Beef Feeding Cow section saw a wonderful entry of 37 head and a very strong trade as well, with short keep cattle in high demand, but genuine grazing cows fit for turn out attracting an larger audience to the ringside. Prices ranged from £580 up to £1500, with others at £1480 £1430 and £1400, and levelling at £1057 per head for all sold. Next Fortnight we have a spring show for feeding cows and a good entry is needed.
Bullocks and Heifers were a sharper trade all through, with short keep cattle their usual good enquiry, but it was evident to see an increased attendance of grazing customers for turnout cattle with the faint prospect of some better weather on the horizon. Spring Show for store in 2 weeks.
A small entry of breeding cattle saw mainly outfits with young calves at foot and prices of £1450 and £1180 for Blue x Friesian Cows with young Blue Heifer Calves at foot.
