PRIME SHEEP (3,144 head)
A much better prime sheep trade than expected given the prices from mid to late last week. It was very much a weather induced trade though with light numbers countrywide this morning helping to lift trade in the afternoon. The overall average is back a bit on the week, but the overall quality was not as good. Some great runs of smart lambs sold well, Peter Fox had top price per kilo at 240.8p with others at 235.9p or £92 and £91 per head. Bryan Hall, Scaleber had top price per head at £94 each, also £82 twice, whilst David Findlay, Coverham presented lambs at 238.5p, 236.4 or £93 and £84 per head whilst also selling a pen of 32kg at £73 each or 228.2p. Jimmy Towler from Grindleton was in the mix too at 228.9p/kg or £87 per head, and other leading prices were F&R Fielden 225.7p & 214.3p, TA Robinson 219.4p and Michael Burnop 218.8p or £87 each. Commercial Export hoggs were a decent trade at 155p to 170p/kg, and Hill lambs bucked the trend with handy weight Mule hoggs £11 to £13 over the weight (125p to 130p), Heavy Mules 50kg plus at 110p to 120p. A good horned wether was 125p plus. A big show of cast sheep were a shade easier than last week.
