Countrystyle Meats of Lancaster set the pace at today’s sale buying the first 3 animals into the ring which included the leading price by weight at 269.5p/kg paid for a 515kg Limousin cross steer from Mesrs RT&J Critchley&Son of Hutton. Martin Brown was in strong form accounting for 4 good steers including the leading gross a 595kg Charolais cross steer from Mesrs CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield which added up to £1461 when making 245.5p/kg. Leading buyer was Keelham Farm Shop of Thornton and Skipton with 5 purchases. 8 retail customers at the ringside all of whom featured in the list of purchasers.

Trade was far better than most would have thought following the difficult prices experienced in places later last week, and an overall sale average of 174.15p/kg represented another good performance on the day, with Farm Assured levelling at 177p. Best lambs were their usual best trade, top end Beltex and Texel ranging from 210p to a top of 234.9p from GA Hewitt & Son, Giggleswick and £105 per head from Seth Blakey of Bolton by Bowland. A decent sort of lamb saw handy weights 180p to 195p, and nice heavies around 180p with commercial handy weights 175p and commercial heavies 165p to 175p.
