PRIME SHEEP (2,599 Head)
The Easter Lamb show was held today with judging carried out by Mr Harry Wood
of Bowland Foods. The Championship fell to Robert Towers of Camp House, Farleton
and was purchased was purchased at £155 by George Cropper of Huntleys Country Store at Samlesbury. The reserve Champion from Mark Evans sold at £146 to Riley Bros, Dunnockshaw.
The average hogg price was down on the week. Meated hoggs maintained the recent good levels, best Beltex getting over 300p, meated export hoggs 220p to 235p, but hill hoggs and lean lowland lambs were easier in price this week. Cast sheep continue to rise in price as numbers begin to tighten countrywide.

At the Craven Farmers Spring Rearing Calf Show a weather affected event saw slightly reduced
numbers than anticipated forward and one or two buyers unable to unable to attend. The show
classes were well supported with a number of top draw entries giving judges Tony Binns and Richard
Umpleby a difficult task in picking their champion, a 36 day old British Blue Bull from
Messrs DN&RM Smith. The calf headed up the sale when selling to Andrew Summers
of Clayton. Reserve Champion was another British Blue Bull this time a 41 day old calf from the
Sutton in Craven farm of DN&RM Smith selling to Lincolnshire customers N&M Mason for £470.
Continental calves a very good trade along with the strong Black and White bull calves. Young
Dairy bull calves slightly less on recent weeks due to snow preventing attendance of one or two
regular buyers.
