Exceptional trade for cast cows with all classes in demand. Champion cow was a British Blue cross cow consigned by Brian Lund of Walshaw which made top price p/kg on the day of 169.5p. Malcolm Swires presented the 1st and 2nd prize dairy cast cows with his 3 cows topping at £1404 and averaging £1313. The Black and White cast cow average was 128.20p/kg or £891.02. Meated dairy cows 135p+. Steakers 127p+ Plains to 112p. Beef x Meated to 169.5p, Feeders to 140.5p

Another large show of sheep presented for sale today and what a trade to match.
Best Beltex lambs averaging 216p overall or £87, Commercial export lambs were selling
at 185p/kg to 200p/kg all sale long, with Texel of all weights averaging 187p today. Good Mule lambs £30 to £33 over the weight, a pen of exceptional 52kg Lonks from Roger Naylor sold at £87 whilst Heavy sheep were good to sell all sale long. Cast sheep were a shade dearer on the week, with big Ewes £100 plus and Mashams topping £70. REARING CALVES to £400 average £156.63
A quality turn out of calves for the start of the month set the trade off on the right foot.
With buyers a plenty and with one eye on the nearing spring every type of calf was in demand.
Geoff and Margaret Booth of Lothersdale had the trade of the day with an exceptional Blue Bull
calf at £400. Month old Black and White Calves were also enjoying an upsurge in demand with
an 8 week old calf from Church Farm Enterprises reaching £165 and one at £145 with an Overall average of £80.07.
Aberdeen Angus calves buyers took the trade to an average of £223 for bulls and £207.50 for Heifers. Show and Sale
on the 25th March though a good number of buyers expected next week.

CRAVEN DAIRY AUCTION (34 head)
Despite the fine weather buyers from all local regions were out in force with very few missing the
chance to watch the Dairy Sale. Trade for all cattle was a little lighter from a fortnight ago
though the champion from Brain Moorhouse (Ped N/C Hfr out of Regan Crest Baltimore) still
managed a respectable price of £2350. Commercial Heifers were slower to the boil but still
managed an average of £1761 and a top £2200 for a classy, deep heifer from HJ&K Blackwell,
Gargrave. In-calf Heifers av £1520 with both entered from Peter Baul of Ripon. A breath of fresh air was the consignment of 12 Hol/Frie Heifer calves which were sold to a wide variety of purchasers with a top of £330 and an av of £290.83. Next Sale 18th March.

EWES & LAMBS
A tidy entry for the opening weekly sale drew a full ringside of potential customers. Correct outfits with strong twins sold at £150 to £174 per outfit (£50 to £58 per life), whilst commercial outfits were around £120 (£40 per life). A few lots with just young lambs at foot but which looked like growing into money were making around equivalent of £34 to £38 per life for singles & twins.
