PRIME SHEEP (4,877 head)
A massive show of sheep forward for sale included something for everyone. From Georgina Fort’s 57kg Texels at £110 each, via Neil Tattersall’s champion pen of lambs weighing 39kg at £118 each purchased by Vivers Scotlamb, Neil’s trailer full of lambs averaged 280p. Others in the 240p/kg plus club were T&C Robinson, Hayley Baines, James Garth & Son, Cyril Bosomworth, Richard & Mark Ireland. The entry also included a lot of Hill lamb breeds where Francis & James Caton lead the way at 189.7pkg for their pen of 21 Mules weighing 39kg at £74. John Beckwith followed closely at 189.5p for Mules whilst the diversity of lambs on offer at Skipton was shown when Gordon Bank’s 30kg Swaledale Lambs sold at £54 each (180p) and the lightest lambs on offer were Michael Wynn’s 23kg Swaledale’s at £37.
The 869 Ewes and Rams were a decent trade as customers fill export and home market orders for the end of Ramadan this week. Ewe trade may now go slack in the middle of this week and into next week so speak to Ted before consigning ewes next Monday to check on demand post festival.
The Monthly show for pime lambs was kindly judged by Mr Paul Watson from Hellifield with the following results awarded and prices achieved.

A packed ringside of punters and people escaping the rain made for a brilliant atmosphere as trade set off well and continued right the way through, Blues were back on the week but still above competition with Colin Whitelock of Gargrave having the pick of the trade with a smart blue bull making £410. Black and Whites set off a flying rate also with some good calves from Ken Wright and Malcolm Kayley of Halton West and didn’t really steady up with an overall average of £87. Come along and enjoy the flexibility and strong trade of a weekly calf auction. Note for the Diary: 26th August Late Summer Calf Show.

CRAVEN DAIRY AUCTION (35 head)
A fantastic shippon of dairy Cows met a good trade with exceptional cattle reaching a very good trade, such as David Lawson’s Champion Heifer reaching £2500, however the good quality just struggled to hit full flow like recent sales. Overall the average was encouraging but anything not quite on the button struggled to make a good price.
