PRIME SHEEP (3,091 Head)
A big show of sheep for mid-April attracted an increased attendance of buyers this week
with the average showing a lift on the week. All classes especially heavy hoggs and hill bred
hoggs were significantly dearer on the week, the very best end were fewer in number but this week trading at 280p to 300p, Hayley Baines topping the market at 315p/kg. A massive show of cast sheep found a ready ringside of buyers with all classes keenly contested, although some very plain ewes would be a shade harder to sell.

More younger outfits on offer this week, the best of which came from Graeme Jackson from Bentham whose 3 shear Texel & twin beltex lambs selling at £220 each. Correct Mule Ewes & twins selling regularly at £140-£165 per outfit. Overall selling average today of £136.80 per outfit. (£49.85 per life equivalent)

CRAVEN DAIRY AUCTION (27 head)
A lack of confidence in the poor spring weather saw a knock on affect around the ring. David and Deborah Lawson of Arthington, Otley drew top honours with Judge Geoff Booth, Dowshaw awarding their Pedigree Holstein Heifer by Bolton Champion. Reserve was close fought but eventually it was concluded that David and Jill Pennocks’ second calver was to be graced with a rosette and went on to a joint top price along with the champion of £2100. Next Week is the Maiden Heifer Production Sale for WP Gratton with over 50 Maiden Heifers entered, looking forward to a good turnout.
