PRIME SHEEP (3,939 Sheep)
A good show of sheep complimented a busy market day with all sale sections showing good entries.
As numbers tightened up around the country there were still plenty on offer at Skipton to keep the buyers happy and let all available accounts buy the sheep they require on Mondays. Trade was very similar to the last few weeks, the overall average virtually unchanged, and a quick market comparison on eblex.org after the sale shows a healthy sale average at Skipton with the Northern Area SQQ for reported markets at 6:30pm standing at 165.4p/kg whilst the same figure at Skipton is 168.1p/kg.
The figures below show the trade broken down into breeds, Beltex crosses anywhere from 185p to 230p, Texel cross Mules £30 to £32 above the weight for good sorts, £25 over for commercial sorts. Mule Wethers 150p to 160p depending on meat.
Another big show of cast sheep found a good level trade similar to previous week.

With a new buyer expected plenty of vendors answered the call with 2/3rd of calves being black and white and receiving a storming trade. The overall average for black and white calves was a strong £101.53 for honest 4-6 wk old calves. Continentals were by no means a bad trade with 11 Blue Bulls averaging £423 calves. CRAVEN DAIRY AUCTION (22 head)
A smaller entry for the early month sale with a number of farmers occupied elsewhere, however a strong show was forward with Judge Colin Whitelock, Gargrave awarding top honours to Robert Crisp of Calton. Farmer buyers made the trade today with only one animal sold to a dealer all day. Top price eventually went to the Champion which was bought by the Townsend family and the reserve champion to the Wellock family. Despite the lack of dealers, trade was still swift proving there is still confidence in good honest milkers, especially locally. Next Sale 30th September.
