Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep

Forward: 6,432 Head – 4,913 Store Lambs & 1,519 Breeding Sheep & Gimmer Lambs.

The fortnightly catalogue sale attracted a very good entry for the time of year. 4,913 Store & wether lambs were forward for the Main ring sale where all classes easily up kept the rates of the previous sale, some lambs been slightly dearer. Large pens of level strong lambs attracted good interest, including the pick of the Mules which was a pen of 97 head from Messrs Harrison of Weston at £65.50 each. Swaledale & Dalesbred Wethers were again good to sell with seasonal purchasers now out in force for these.

The special sale of breeding sheep & gimmer lambs saw 1,519 head sold in the Lingfields sheep ring, where a feature of this sale is always the good entry of Mule gimmer lambs, which is the 5^th sale of the season at Skipton, and this year was no exception with 1,042 Mule Gimmers levelling at £71.79 (-£5.98 on 2012). Horned gimmer lambs were also in demand from several buyers looking to top up stocks at winter keep.
