Great Annual Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members.
6,064 head at an overall average of £91.22 per head (-£6.87)
CCM Auctions conducted their opening Fortnightly Show and Sale of NEMSA members Mule Gimmer Lambs at Skipton Auction Mart, North Yorkshire on Tuesday 11th September and a very satisfactory sale was conducted by the auctioneers. Its fair to say that the run up to the sale this year was probably one of the most uncertain for many years with several external factors, mainly weather related, having a downward effect on the breeding sheep trade countrywide. The average was down on the year, but by no means as much as most would have expected, the sale levelled at £91.22, a fall of just £6.87 on the year.
The pre-sale show was very well supported and the quality of lambs put before the judges was a tremendous testament to the producers of this area. The champion pen of ten selected by judges Mr Henry Tustian and Mr Greame Jackson, came from JK Wilson and Son of Blubberhouses and they later sold for £270 each.
Most top pens were a nice trade, with plenty at £130-£168, representing a very similar trade on the year. Strong nice lambs in the middle of peoples runs were also a sharp trade and not vastly different on the year. Runners did see a drop on the year, but any strong bodied lambs with good skins sold well and above many peoples expectations.
A huge thankyou to all involved today, vendors for presenting a good show, buyers for travelling from far and wide to support them, our judges for expertly carrying out their task, and finally to Carrs Billington, Barclays Bank and Armstrong Watson for kindly sponsoring the prize money.
Please Note that entries for the Second Sale of 10,000 NEMSA Mule Gimmer Lambs to be held on Tuesday 25th September close tomorrow (Wed 12th Sept) at 4pm. The ballot will be drawn immediately afterwards.
