8th WINTER SALE OF IN LAMB PEDIGREE BELTEX ON BEHALF OF THE NORTHERN BELTEX CLUB

Mathew Burleigh from Enniskillen in Co Fermanagh again took the championship rosette at the Beltex Sheep Society’s Winter sale of Pedigree females at Skipton Auction Mart on Saturday.
The shearling ewe is by Hackney Wonderboy out of a Matts Abracadabra Dean Brow ewe. Sold carrying a single to Hackney Corker it made 1100gns to Messrs Cornforth of Tadcaster. Mr Burleigh then made 900gns of another Wonderboy shearling ewe, this time carrying a single to Ardstewart Angus, and heading home locally to Bolton Abbey with JGE Heseltine & Son, the same buyer taking home a third Wonderboy got shearling for 650gns. Mr Burleigh completed a good day with a Murrays Code shearling inlamb to Corker making 550gns. Messrs Davis from Eldroth presented a run of females from their Rathbone flock selling to 550gns and 500gns, whilst Garry and Laura Robinson made 400gns of a ewe lamb. The sale figures show a 92.5% clearance rate for the sale and inlamb sheep averaging £413 with ewe lambs at £233.

WINTER SALE OF PURE BRED AND SHOW QUALITY CONTINENTAL EWES
Alongside the Beltex Society sale, CCM held their Annual Winter Collective sale for show quality Continental Females, being mainly ¾ bred and purebred sheep suitable for show lamb production. Frank Joel from Westhouse led the sale at 500gns with lot 91, a Texel Beltex cross 1 crop ewe sold carting twins to a homebred Ingleborough View ram by Tercrosset Blackmail, selling locally to Ellis Bros. Mr Joel had a solid trade for his smart sorts with those carrying twins on good demand with another 8 lots from 300gns to 380gns. Mike Davis from Ravenshaw had a nice run of Dutch Texel sheep, the best of which was 480gns and 420gns for inlamb shearlings. John Wood from Trawden sold a consignment of Blue Texels with 5 inlamb sheep achieving 400gns or more and ewe lambs to 280gns. Anthony Thompson from Foulridge presented a great run of 40 crossbred sheep, topping at 400gns for a pure Beltex inlamb shearling and 380gns for another pure Beltex, then 350gns for a pair of Beltex x and 350gns again for a pair of Beltex Charollais crosses. The Collective sale had an entry of 160 head, with inlamb females averaging £256 and Ewe Lambs £169.
