Beef Shorthorn
The Overall Champion at the Annual Show & Sale of Beef Shorthorn Cattle held on behalf of the Beef Shorthorn Cattle Society was Tessa X902 of Upsall. The winner of the Female Championship was shown by the Honourable Gerald Turton of Upsall near Thirsk and is a daughter of Tessa X683 which sold at the 2011 sale for 4000gns. The roan April 2013 heifer by Trojan of Craigeassie, scanned incalf to Festival of Upsall was also the pick of a number of buyers on the day before finding a home with Highland Waghu from Burnside of Balhaldie for 5200gns.
Mr Turton’s Upsall herd with herdsman Ian Park also provided the Reserve Overall Champion with a June 2013 dark roan Maiden Heifer, Nonpareil X942 of Upsall by Elijah of Upsall that went onto join Tim Riley of Midgley for 4500gns. In a clean sweep of the top prices the Upsall herd the produced the second prized Junior Heifer Marigold X947 of Upsall by the noted Atilla of Upsall out of a Vortrekker Cow joining the Champion at Highland Waghu when sold for 3500gns.
The Senior Heifer met strong support during the 100% clearance of females headed up by Tracey Severn Highlee Duchess Fantasia the Red & Little White 2012 daughter of Vulcan of Upsall carrying a service to Podehole Elite which joined AC Farms of Oakham for 2900gns. Bulls proved hard to clear but a considerable number of buyers travelled a long distance to the sale in search of Incalf Heifers and maiden heifers with many leaving empty handed because of the strong demand.
