Forward: 4,019 head of Shearling Gimmers
CCM Auctions conducted their Great Annual Prize Sale of Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton on Tuesday. Sheep were shown in fine fettle and trade was slightly better on the year, with the overall selling average rising by £7.53 on the year. In the morning the prize show for Mules was judged by Mr Andrew Ogden of Cowling and Mr Warwick Gill, Melton Mowbray. This year the Edgar Boothman Trophy for the best pen of Mule shearlings was awarded to Mr John Greenhalgh of Bashall Eaves. They later sold at £215 each to Mr Gill. The second prize pen from Peter & Edward Fox of Clitheroe achieved the same price and went to the same purchaser.
Mr Stuart Currie of Rathmell adjudicated in the Continental Shearling class, and Messrs Harvey of Waxham took first prize honours again this year with a pen of Homebred twice crossed Texel shearlings and they sold to M&J Campbell of Horton in Ribblesdale. Overall a highly satisfactory sale with prices very much in line with everybody’s expectations.
