REARING CALVES to £545 average £245.19
Calves entered for the May Calf Show were met by a phenomenal trade with all types of calves in high demand. All show classes were pretty straight forward for David Asquith and his daughter until they reached the British Blue pen where competition was fierce. The champion calf was eventually chosen and it was from Andrew Ogden of Sandyforth, Cowling, with second and third being collected by Clarence and David Smith from Sutton In Craven. The Champion only just 4 wks old raced to £500 and was snapped up by Mr Mason from Lincolnshire, who also was final bidder at the 3rd prize calf from Clarence and David Smith at £515. The 2nd Prize Blue from the Smiths of Sutton in Craven reached top price of the day reaching £545 and being sold to Derek Taylor of Burton Leonard. With such a strong trade it was a shame there wasn’t another 50 Calves around to satisfy the trade.
