Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle
Forward: 681 head of cattle.
Comprising: 577 Feeding Cattle (75 Young Bulls, 50 Beef Feeding Cows,452 Bullocks & Heifers) & 104 Breeding Cattle inc 50 Pedigree Bulls & Females.
Feeding Bulls –
60% of todays entry aged between 5-10 months and 30% 11-12 months. 2018 suckled calves a respectable trade with the youngest/smallest £700 plus and the strongest 12 months £1050 to £1200.
Store Cattle-
Trade better than expected with more travelled buyers from the midlands and eastern counties looking for cattle of all ages helping to make for a stronger sale than last fortnight. Some good runs of stronger cattle finding favour, £1200-£1300 for strongest sorts. Suckled calves and nice younger cattle received stronger prices and were certainly better to sell than we all anticipated before hand. Best Yearling Bullocks £950-£1050, odd show types a touch more, whilst some runs of 5-6 month old suckled bullocks topping out around the £800 region.
Feeding Cows-
A fair show of these, although trade for the genuine feeding types just a bit harder work whilst the meat maintain trade inline with recent sales topping at £1200 fro a good Blonde cross from John Greenhalgh.

Autumn Breeding Bull Sale
Crookrise Pride bred by G&MA Lawn and sold by John and Judith Garnett was the leading price at the Autumn Beef Breeding Sale. The 2015 Aberdeen Angus Cobbyhill, Gaffer Gambit son was only sold by the Garnetts because he already has plenty of daughters in the herd and he find a new home with Messrs Whitwell in Pendleton for 1700gns. Breeding bulls customers at premium prices were in scarce supply with the next highest price Loosebeare Fantastic son, a 2017 Limousin at 1500gns from P Varley, Queensbury.
Pedigree Females saw a good clearance. WP Brewer & Sons of Bleasdale, were top price with Coredale Floss. A 2010 Ronick Viva daughter with a Haltcliffe sired bull calf at foot which made 1700gns. Whilst a reduction of the Calton herd of Pedigree polled Hereford cattle for ST&JE Foster was topped by the 2012 Jowkin 1 Barbara sold with her bull calf for 1100gns.
