Feeding Bulls –
16 buyers for the 110 bulls on offer. Best bulls in each age section keenly sought as buyers filled up pens in response to firming prime price. Under 12 month bulls peaked at £1240 for a December Limousin cross from Turner Farms Ltd, a price shared by Stephen Horsfield of Mytholmroyd for a November born Blonde Cross. Messrs WA&VJ&JA Towler of Grindleton presented a pen of 8 matching red limousin bulls from 11 months – 13 months which included 11 month old bulls to £1195 and 13 month old bulls to £1200. A few stale late spring cattle and dairy crosses affecting overall averages but bulls were a very good trade in general.
Grazing Cows – A good entry of feeding cows at all levels. Two fed continental cows from Messrs E&M Townley & Son, a 2009 Lim x at £1270 and a 2015 Limx at £1220 were amongst the headlines. RS&HA Davey were also in the top three with a 2016 Bazadais x at £1260 as was Paul Fletchers 2005 red lim cow at £1250.
Older stronger cattle were yet again a cracking trade with big strong runs of cattle on the receiving end of some sharp bidding. John Hopkinson of Fair Place Farm, Cowling topped the days trade with a tremendous bullock at £1375. Black and White bullocks also met a very competitive ringside with a cracking bullock from John Rennard, Beamsley topping at £1120. A mention also to the Lord family of Littleborough who brought a tremendous run of 40 Contx Bullocks and Heifers from 14 – 15 months of age averaging £940.
The Autumn Show of Native Store Cattle saw a strong turnout of cattle with some healthy classes to be judged earlier this morning by Tom Bland of Braida Garth, Ingleton. Winning a clean sweep of the Belted Galloway class was Chris and Christine Ryder of Blubberhouse with three pair of tremendous Belted Bullocks and received £1000 for their 1st prized pen. The Aberdeen Angus class was won by Robert Gemmel of Bradshaw with three strong bullocks at £1110, with the Daggett family of Burnsall taking the red rosette in the Shorthorn class and receiving a bottle of Whisky from Morrisons own Jim Holden with the pair of bullocks eventually selling for £1040.
