STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 13TH MAY 2020

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 609 head of cattle Comprising: 601 Feeding Cattle (148 Young Bulls, 57 Beef Feeding Cows/Bulls, 396 Bullocks & Heifers) & 8 Breeding Cattle.



 

Feeding Bulls – these were an exceptional trade aided by a full complement of buyers from all over the north and midlands. The best strong continentals were £1100+ and the overall average of £953 includes a larger than usual entry of grazing bulls which were a very good trade.

 

Feeding Cows – with keep and a rising finished price the feeding cows mirrored the feeding bulls with an exceptional trade. Plenty of first cross beef cows at £900+ with improvement and ¾ beef cows or cattle to turn away to grass equally strong.


Stores –

The older feeding cattle selling nicely today, with finishers buoyed by a generally stronger prime trade as live marts report recent increased entries and averages too, with processors having to follow suit and raise their quotes as well. Several smart runs of older cattle achieving £1150 to £1300, JG Hall & Son Gargrave topping with a Limousin Heifer at £1300, closely followed by JR&DL Ogden, Austwick at £1295 and Ellis Bros, Addingham Moorside at £1240. Other good beef bred types £1050 plus, and the older beef dairy cross heifers mid £900’s to around £1050. Stronger Steers were also in better form, with decent 18/22mo types either side of £1100 for grazing, the next grade at £1040 to £1080.

Younger grazing cattle a strong trade with active purchasers filling spaces up in the ring! Same story as previous weeks with Good R+U Grade cattle from 7-15 months getting away very well with some out of spec O Grades with a lot of fat on still a good trade but lacking the premiums paid for the U’s and R’s! Some hard coated cattle sold away with people looking for cattle to improve in the summer months!

Once again Angus and Char Blks and Heifers selling very well to purchasers looking for cattle to grow on and sell back through our store ring in the winter months as larger feeding cattle!

WI&AM Atkinson of Bleasdale led the age section with a homebred 11month old heifer at £1110. Bullocks under 12months topped at £1000 from JR Carr, Hawpike.

NATIVE CATTLE - a totoal of 52 Native Steers sold through todays ring comprising of - 17 Shorthorn, 2 Galloway, 20 Angus & 13 Herefords. Top price was £1070 with a pair of Hereford Steers from F Thomas. from the same vendor top price Angus Bullock selling for £1050. A packet of 12 month old grazing bullocks from DA B SG Ogsen sold for £800. 2 Galloways sold for £790 per head. Angus heifers were also a good trade with best heifers £900+ with meduim sorts £750-£8960. these were in short supply. buyers are looking for frame when buying these cattle.
