Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 639 head of cattle Comprising: 600 Feeding Cattle (74 Young Bulls, 60 Beef Feeding Cows & Bulls, 466 Bullocks & Heifers) & 39 Breeding Cattle.

Feeding Bulls – buyers attended today after a significant drop in prime values and as consequence trade was back on the fortnight. An increased entry of suckled calves were a fair trade for the best at £1000-£1100 with the smaller and quality £700-£750. Strong bulls under 16months remained £1200-£1300 for the best.

Feeding Cows – cow trade reflected the time of year with a high percentage of cows from outside but the cattle carrying flesh £980-£1100. Two pure bred Blue Cows from Ken Gamble £1620 and £1540.

Stores - Store cattle a mixture of trade today with some goods just looking less sort after for today. Well fleshed medium heifers and bullocks would be better sold a bit leaner as buyers are worried of cattle losing condition and going backwards when buying them. Suckler bred 18month old Lim Steers/ heifers selling to regular purchasers with prices very similar on the week and more buyers forward to buy heifers for bulling. Lim steers sold to £1500 Fair Place Farm followed by a Lim steer from Brian Kaye, Sheffield at £1380 for an 18-month-old, followed by £1350 from the same vendor. Best sorts still £1200+ with exceptional cattle exceeding £1300. Same story with the heifers, less size about with these though but good runs of cattle coming through again, mainly being purchased by buyers to sell again through the live sales ring as fat cattle both far and wide to Skipton. Top price from GT Booth, Lothersdale at £1375 followed by £1360 from TH&K Wood, Harrogate. £950-£1080 for good grading heifers and more size and power exceeding these prices. Blues sold well once again with size taking no harm in the ring. Heavy blue bullocks up-to £1300 P&E Fox. Followed by £1270 for some dairy bred but well grown and thick bullocks from regular vendor DT&LA Houseman. Size and power £1050+ with smaller grown and plainer sorts less money. Angus steers mainly around the £1000 mark for strength but some exceptionally big weighted bullocks from Bargh Bros totalled to £1340. Angus bullocks still good to sell especially younger sorts but suckler bred. Dairy bred sorts selling better with size. Angus heifers to much size about this week with growing sorts mainly in the sale. £1025 to N&J Thwaite was the top price with some good strong heifers. More younger Angus heifers in the sale £750-£850 with £880-£900 for better grown feeding sorts.

Todays Sale also several large annual consignments of suckled calves from regular vendors at this sale. Messrs Blades from Keerholme Carnforth presented 27 Limousin crosses born January February 2020 with the heifers finding favour ringside, a pair selling at £1040, a single at £1030 and a pen of 3 at £1020 with the rest mainly in the £900’s.
Messrs Longton from Rooten Brook, who have shown at this sale for many years, had a fabulous run of 34 Charolais Calves mainly March April born (5/6months), bullocks to £950 and £890, with the main of the rest in the £800’s, and heifers in the £700’s.
GP&S Fleetwood from Mirfield had 20 forward, Limousin crosses Feb-March-April Born, steers to £970 and heifers to £920, with other good heifers in the £700’s and £800’s.
