Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle
Forward: 629 head of cattle
Comprising: 161 Young Feeding Bulls, 16 Beef Feeding Cows, 439 Bullocks & Heifers, & 11 Breeding Cattle.
A much larger percentage of 2016 born feeding bulls weighing 370-430kg resulted in an increase on the fortnight for the age category of £65 to level at £1024. Most of this increase could be attributed to the increased weight of the entry which put upward pressure on the lightweight bulls which are much fewer in numbers.
Top of the 2016 feeding bulls were E&M Townley & Son of Clapham for a March born Limousin cross which sold for £1260 av £1240. Messrs T Robinson & Son of Catlow were top of the 13-17 month bulls with a November 2016 born Limousin cross at £1240 and Pedigree breeders headed up the over 18 month bulls with GW Wallbank of Keasden the pick whose April 2016 British Blue bull made £1320.
161 bulls in total average £1033 which included 149 head under 12 months.
The Beef Bred Feeding Cows which are sold in the lump were a roaring trade topped by a Charolais cow from E Pennock & Son which made £1280 and a grazing cow average of £923 for 16 sold.
Bullocks and Heifers were a fiery trade all day with trade dearer than the previous sale by a nice margin. Strong sorts found a very ready following with £1200 to £1300 achieved on several occasions for the 18-22mo old forward sorts. Yearlings continue to find favour and the forward sorts could see best bullocks at 10-12 months old could be either side of £1100, nice types £950-£1050, commercial £850-£900.
